Crewe Fall in Semi Final

Crewe United’s long wait for silverware continues as they lost 4-0 to Dollingstown. The game however was alot closer than the scoreline suggests and things were’nt helped by a Pete McCabe sending off and the loss of goalkeeper Colm McAuley through injury.

Crewe started the day with a coach trip to the Park Plaza hotel as the players relaxed before the big kick off.

Dollingstown 4 Crewe United 0

Crewe opened much the brighter of the two sides and should have went ahead when Loic Bouchard struck a shot when Kempston could only divert just wide of the target. It was the French man again pulling the strings for Crewe as he rounded a Dollingstown defender and the goalkeeper and Pete McCabe ran onto the ball but his shot was cleared off the lane with a last ditch slide from the home defence.

It was against the run of play when Dollingstown were awarded a controversial penalty which was clearly outside the box. However it did not stop the home side scoring to go one up. Not long before half time Crewe were again on the wrong end of a penalty decision and again Dollingstown punished the Glenavy men and rounded off the half, fortunately going in two goals up.

Half Time: 2-0

The second half started as the first half with Crewe looking positive and playing some good football. However the small glimmer of hope Crewe had was extinguished when McCabe was dismissed for his second yellow. It was going to be an uphill battle for the Crewe side after the sending off but to their credit they kept their heads and made life difficult for Dollingstown.

But just when it looked like things couldnt get any worse for the Glenavy side, keeper Colm McAuley was stretchered off with 25 minutes still on the clock. Pablo McStravick came off the bench to take up duties between the posts but could not keep out two more Dollingstown goals despite making some great saves in his short appearance.

Overall it was a disappointing result but certainly the performance and application of the players give optimism for the rest of the season.
