Crewe Set For Defence Of Peace Cup

Crewe United will set off on Friday 29th July for the Peace Cup weekend which they will seek to retain after a stunning 3-2 win at Crewe Park last year. The 28 strong delegation from Crewe will set off from the Maldron Hotel, Belfast next Friday with the Peace Cup in their suitcase!

The Peace Cup arose from the tragic bomb in Warrington in which to young boys, Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball, lost their lives over 20 years ago. Crewe were the first group to visit Warrington after the explosion to pay respects to those killed and injured and the relationship since then has grown with the links going beyond just the club but now strong links between Lisburn & Castlereagh Council and Warrington Council. Indeed, without the support of both Councils maintaining and growing the partnership would have been impossible and both clubs thank them for this support.

Crewe United are set to arrive in the town a day before the fixture when they will join Warrington Town at a Town Hall reception, which will also be attended by Mayor Cllr Faisal Rashid and mayoress Aleeza. Its is always a great occasion and a superb weekend.

Crewe travel to Warrington after the hosts having one of the most memorable seasons in their history lifting the Evo -Stik League Title. Crewe however are a squad on the up and have had made recent significant signings as they seek to build on their 5th place Mid Ulster League finish last term. The Glenavy side will be determined to put on another good performance and as holders will do all they can to bring the trophy back to Crewe Park. The full itinerary for the weekend is as follows;

The club will officially launch their new kit the morning they fly out and have taken a positive step of adding VOYPIC, a local charity working across Northern Ireland promoting the rights and improving the lives of children of young people cared away from home, on their kits for the season ahead. We hope that by advertising their logo on our kits we can raise awareness of what they do and how people can help them.

It will be a busy weekend for the Crewe players and committee but no doubt will be another fantastic trip and a fitting tribute and memory of past tragic events.
